Writing Consultation

Coaching, Editing, and Group Facilitation Services

As a professional writing consultant, my number one goal is to support you on your writing journey. My work is based on 15 years of experience as a writing teacher, freelance editor, and published writer, so I am comfortable working one-on-one with writers or with writing groups. I am particularly interested in working with writers who want to hone their craft and deepen their writing practice intentions. I am a “stay in touch” consultant, which means you will occasionally get emails from me about specific opportunities related to your writing interests and/or career. My hope is to build long-lasting relationships with writers to further support them and their ambitions.

Book Coach Services: $250 per month

This is a process-based accountability program that will support you in writing your book. Together, we will discuss the priorities for your project and the challenges you have faced. I offer you tools for pre-writing, outlining, developing shape and structure, revision, and resources on the writing craft. We set a schedule, and I provide weekly email check-ins for inspiration and accountability, plus one consultation call (45 minutes) each month where we talk about roadblocks, assess goals, and consider questions about publishing. New clients will be asked to complete a questionnaire detailing their project and writing process as well as provide a 25-page sample of a current draft. NOTE: Written feedback and editorial notes are offered at an additional charge (subject to availability).

Editorial Analysis: $150 per 5,000-word block

The editorial analysis includes an overview of the structure, logistics, voice, as well as line work. I make comments and edits on the manuscript itself and attach a summary note. After you’ve had a chance to read and think over the note, we can set up a time to talk (45 minutes over Zoom or phone) to discuss questions and next steps.

Writing Group Facilitation: $50 per person for a two-hour session, minimum three participants

A writing group facilitator can help provide structure and focus to a writing group. Together, as a group, we identify and formalize goals and intentions for the writing workshop. As a facilitator, I prioritize inclusion and equity among group members by making sure everyone feels seen and heard. I can help to keep the workshop constructive and positive by clarifying group goals. I stimulate participation by asking follow-up questions and encouraging others to add their reactions or ideas to build on someone’s comment. I recognize that the experience of sharing unfinished or early drafts requires vulnerability, so I work to cultivate a space of support where feedback is constructive. As a group, we will decide on meeting schedules. I will make a point to email reminders before each meeting. At this time I can only offer group facilitation over Zoom. NOTE: Written feedback and editorial notes are offered at an additional charge (subject to availability). Please assemble a group of three or more before inquiring.
